Annual Scholarship Competition Announcement

Dear Musicians, Educators, and Counselors,

The Hamakua Musical Festival is pleased to announce it will once again hold its scholarship competition! For the past 14 years, the Hamakua Music Festival (HMF) has funded a scholarship program for young musicians. The main mission of HMF has been to open doors for young talented musicians and to educate youth to the value and beauty of music in their lives.

The application form and guidelines are enclosed. Please make copies and distribute to interested students. Applicants must be between fourteen and nineteen years of age. Please see the enclosed guidelines for more details.

We must receive all applications in our office by Friday, February 29, 2008. No applications will be accepted after this date.

Each application should include the following:

• A complete 2008 Application Form
• A cassette or CD demonstrating the student’s talent. Please be sure the student’s performance clearly stands out from any accompaniment.
• A separate recommendation by a teacher or music professional that that knows this student. This recommendation should be sent separately to the HMF and must be received by the deadline date.

A panel of judges will review the applications, and finalist will be invited to perform a live audition that will be held at Honokaa People’s Theatre on Saturday, April 19, 2008, time to be announced. The public is invited to attend.
